English Dance and Song, Summer 2018

Our Steps for Success conference in March attracted dancing enthusiasts from all corners of the UK, and proved a fascinating and insightful day into what makes a successful and thriving social dancing scene.

The Traditional Song Forum this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. This group holds events the length and breadth of the UK to discuss research, projects and practices, to network and encourage enthusiasm about folk song.

Bridge Folk Club in Newcastle is hosting a number of pop-up events to celebrate its 60th anniversary this summer. Over the past six decades, the club has welcomed and been supported by many folk artists, and you can take part in these celebrations – you can discover more in our Folk in our Pub feature.

Malcolm Taylor celebrates the 90th birthday of Ron Smedley (you can read a longer version of the EDS article here)

And let’s not forget you can head along to the summer festivals and take part in all manner of folk-related activities this summer. Our festival listings give details of many festivals happening all over the country.

There are many more features which delve into aspects of English dance, music and song – plus regular features including Lives Remembered, Folk’s Family Tree, reviews and dance listings.
