Artists' Bursaries

Artists' Bursaries

The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) offer a range of valuable professional development opportunities for artists.

New bursaries are announced, and open for applications in the Spring of each year.

Our current schemes are:

Seed Funding

A fixed award aimed at emerging artists with an idea for a project rooted in English folk music. This award can help fund an element, or the entirety of the plan. EFDSS will support the project where required, and offer advice on future development and opportunities.

Creative Bursaries

Open to individuals at any stage in their career, these bursaries are for artists able to demonstrate a high level of quality, imagination and ambition in their work. The programme offers funding, space and support for artists from any art form or genre who want to explore creative new work that is rooted in the English traditional folk arts.

Graeme Miles Bursary

This £1200 award, offered by EFDSS in partnership with The Unthanks, aims to support a young musician or group from the North East of England to develop their careers.

This bursary award will be made in the name and memory of Teesside singer/songwriter and EFDSS Gold Badge recipient, Graeme Miles.
